NFL Week 4: How Did All 36 Former Buckeyes Fare?

Brian Hartline had a serious day.

Note: This is a weekly column on OSU Buckeyes in the NFL. Check out Tim’s posts for Week 1Week 2 and Week 3.

I am continuously amazed by how many Ohio State players make it to the NFL. Each year, there are more Buckeyes named in the NFL Draft than almost any other school. Even with the hectic situation that the Ohio State football program has been in for the past couple of years, the professional talent is still being produced.

As of today, there are 36 former Ohio State football players on NFL active rosters and four others on practice squads.

Heres how each former Buckeye fared in week four...

Offensive Buckeye of the Week:

Brian Hartline - 12 receptions, 253 yards, 1 touchdown

Brain Hartline had a monster game this week, by far the best of his young NFL career. With 12 catches, 250+ yards, and an 80-yard touchdown in the fourth quarter, this former Buckeye did everything he could do to win his team the game, but unfortunately it still wasn't enough. Hartline is clearly the top threat through the air for a young Dolphins team, as he ranks first in the NFL with 455 yards receiving so far in 2012. Hopefully he and rookie quarterback Ryan Tannehill can be a dynamic duo for years to come.

Defensive Buckeye of the Week:

James Laurinaitis - 9 tackles (8 solo)

Laurinaitis continues to be one of the top linebackers in the NFL and so far this season he has proved his worth for St. Louis. The son of a former professional wrestler, Laurinaitis is a physical force for the Rams' defense. His eight solo tackles ended up outnumbering the total number of tackles for any player on the opposing Seattle Seahawks. A team captain for the Rams, Laurinaitis is currently tied for seventh in the NFL for total tackles (he has 39 on the year).
