NFL Week 9: How Did All 37 Former Buckeyes Fare?

Anderson Russell is back on an active roster.

Each of the past two weeks there have been former Ohio State football players added to NFL active rosters. Brian Robiskie was picked up by the Lions following Nate Burleson's injury, and this week, Anderson Russell was activated by the Miami Dolphins. Russell has been on the Dolphins' practice squad this season. Previously, Russell played for the Redskins in 2010, recording two solo tackles in two games of action.

It should come as no surprise that these players have been snatched up. As teams prepare for the final stretch of the NFL season, it is perfectly possible that more former Buckeyes will be called to action.

Some of the more likely possibilities include:
- Chimdi Chekwa, Cornerback, Oakland Raiders Practice Squad
- Troy Smith, Quarterback, Free Agent (Smith has recently been involved with the Ohio State Athletic Department)
- Dan "Boom" Herron, Running Back, Cincinnati Bengals Practice Squad
- Vernon Gholston, Defensive End/Linebacker, Free Agent
- Brian Rolle, Linebacker, Free Agent
- Bobby Carpenter, Linebacker, Free Agent

Now for your weekly update on the 37 Buckeyes already on active rosters...

Offensive Buckeye of the Week:

Brian Hartline - 8 receptions, 107 yards

Brian Hartline, who hadn't had a big game since his 253-yard performance on September 30th, exploded back into relevancy with eight grabs for 107 yards against the Colts. Even though the Dolphins ended up losing, Hartline did everything he could to get his team into a position to win the game. As the Dolphins' only consistent receiver, this former Buckeye has been something of a safety blanket for rookie quarterback Ryan Tannehill. Hartline is 11th in the NFL in receiving yards this year.

Defensive Buckeye of the Week:

Will Smith - 3 tackles (2 solo), 2 sacks

Will Smith hasn't had a big season so far but came up big this weekend against the Eagles. Smith helped lead a pass rush that managed to take down Philadelphia quarterback Michael Vick a total of 7 times. With two quarterback sacks, Smith showed off some of the power and skill that made him an All-Rookie selection in 2004 and a Pro-Bowl selection in 2006. Smith now has a total of four sacks in 2012.
