Ohio State Board To Vote On Thad Matta Getting A $300K Raise

Scoop: Thad Matta is likely to be getting a $300,000 a year raise, according to The Lantern.

Significance: Matta will now be making $3.2 million annually on a contract that runs through July 2019, pending approval from the Ohio State Board of Trustees.

Story: Thad Matta has significantly enhanced the profile of Ohio State basketball since he took over the program in 2004. Though the team still has yet to capture a national championship under his watch, Matta has guided the Buckeyes to the Final Four twice, as well as five Big Ten regular season and three conference tournament championships.

Matta has turned OSU into a perennial national contender, and has generated great excitement for a sport that has always played second fiddle to football in Columbus. The increase in pay will no doubt come with higher expectations, but this added pressure should be no problem for the coach as long as he continues to attract top talent.
