Arguably the best college football player in the country is facing an indefinite suspension.

According to multiple reports – first from Lettermen Row – Ohio State star defensive end Chase Young will miss this weekend’s game against Maryland. Beyond that, Young could miss more time if he isn’t cleared by the NCAA.

As for the nature of the suspension, the details are still unclear. According to the report, Ohio State is “optimistic Young will be cleared.”

From the report:

Ohio State has not publicly commented at this point on Friday morning, and exact details about the potential NCAA violation remain unclear at this point. Multiple sources have indicated that the program is optimistic that Young will be cleared to return to Buckeyes this season, but a resolution for the matter still hasn’t been reached.

Ohio State released a statement to Austin Ward of Lettermen Row, confirming the news.

“Ohio State’s Chase Young will not play in this Saturday’s game between the Buckeyes and the Maryland Terrapins due to a possible NCAA issue from 2018 that the Department of Athletics is looking into,” the statement read.

Young has been the most dominant defensive player in the country this season. He leads the nation in sacks with 13.5 and is poised to break the Big Ten sack record.

However, it looks like he’ll have at least one fewer game to do so.

Stay tuned for the latest on this developing situation.
