Today, Day not only confirmed Friday is out for the year, but also revealed the veteran defensive end’s injury and how he got hurt. Friday tore his ACL during an offseason training session away from the program.
The silver lining for the onetime four-star recruit out of New Jersey is that he’ll be able to return to the Buckeyes in 2022.
“It was a tough break for him in the preseason, kind of a freak thing, just out doing some drills on his own and just one of those things,” Day said, via 11W. “We’re obviously happy that he’s gonna be back for another year, but it’s gonna be a long year for recovery.
Ryan Day said Tyler Friday's injury is a torn ACL that he suffered while training on his own this offseason. Indicated that Friday will be out for the season, but Day is glad he'll be back at Ohio State next year.

In his first three seasons with the Buckeyes, Friday appeared in 26 games, recording 18 tackles, three sacks and a fumble recovery. Friday has started five contests in his career.
While his injury is a big loss for depth, Ohio State is still well-stocked at defensive end with Zach Harrison, Tyreke Smith and Javontae Jean-Baptiste, as well as freshmen J.T. Tuimoloau and Jack Sawyer.
