Ohio State appears to have locked up its postseason status with tonight’s Big Ten Championship Game against Northwestern.
The Buckeyes have played well against the Wildcats, leading 38-24 with less than 7 minutes to play, but not quite good enough to impress the College Football Playoff selection committee.
So, Ohio State will likely be behind either Oklahoma or Georgia (or both) in the final College Football Playoff rankings on Sunday.
That means Ohio State, if it holds on against Northwestern, will be heading to Pasadena, California.
The Buckeyes are likely set to face Washington in the Rose Bowl.
The Rose Bowl isn’t the College Football Playoff, obviously, but it’s still a pretty great way to cap a college football season.
Ohio State hasn’t played in the Rose Bowl since 2010, when a Terrelle Pryor-led Buckeyes team beat Oregon, 26-17.
An official announcement on Ohio State’s bowl game will be coming on Sunday afternoon. The final College Football Playoff rankings will be unveiled at noon on ESPN.
