Ohio State's Chris Holtmann Thanked "Fine, Clever, Smart Journalists" Who Picked Against His Team

Ohio State head coach Chris Holtmann had a message for the media after his team's first-round game.

Fifth-seeded Ohio State took care of No. 12 seed South Dakota State 81-73 in the first round of the West Region this afternoon. The Buckeyes were led by Keita Bates-Diop, Kam Williams and C.J. Jackson, who each reached the 20-point mark.

Going into the game, Ohio State was a popular pick to be upset. The 12-5 upset is a common one in the NCAA Tournament, and South Dakota State had tournament experience and a star in big man Mike Daum.

After the win, Chris Holtmann took a friendly jab at those in the media who picked against them. He thanked them for their motivation.

“I just want to thank all of the fine, clever, smart journalists who didn't pick us," Holtmann said.

You can tell Holtmann enjoyed that.

With the win, Holtmann and the Buckeyes move on the face Gonzaga on Saturday. They will be the underdogs in that game, which should provide even more motivation.
