When the Northwestern Wildcats face No. 4 Ohio State this Saturday, stopping QB Justin Fields will be a top priority. Fields has put up video-game stats, leading the Buckeyes to a 6-0 record.
Northwestern head coach Pat Fitzgerald is familiar with Fields and his abilities. He tried to get the current Ohio State QB to come to Northwestern during his initial recruitment.
But as we all know, Fields chose Georgia before transferring to Ohio State.
Fitzgerald still admires Fields’ talent. The Northwestern head coach took time during his Monday press conference to praise the OSU QB.
“We recruited Justin,” Fitzgerald said, via Twitter. “I mean he’s a rockstar person. We were blown away with him out of high school. Then all of a sudden, recruiting, you guys gave him too many stars. You know, it would have been great if you kept him where he was when we were recruiting him (laughs).”
Fields was a 247Sports composite 5-star and the top-ranked dual-threat QB coming out of high school. He’s certainly proved that ranking was well-earned.
Pat Fitzgerald recruited Justin Fields, and loved the QB.
He shared a quick story about the process today.

Through six games this season, the Ohio State QB has thrown for 1,298 yards and 18 touchdowns. He’s also added 283 yards on the ground and eight rushing scores. All-in-all, Fields has 26 total touchdowns.
It’s very likely Fields has another ‘Heisman-like’ performance on Saturday vs. Northwestern.
