Ohio State students used the first snowfall of the school year to send a message to the NCAA last night, taking up for defensive end Chase Young.
Young, the Buckeyes’ best player and the possible No. 1 overall pick in the 2020 NFL Draft, sat out last weekend’s game against Maryland. The NCAA is investigating a reported loan he received from a family friend prior to last season’s Rose Bowl.
Young claims the loan was used to fly his girlfriend to the Rose Bowl and that he ultimately repaid it. Reports over the weekend indicated Young could be facing a two-game suspension, which would have him out of this weekend’s game against Rutgers and back in time to face Penn State next Saturday.
On campus last night, Ohio State students showed their support for Young by writing “Free Chase Young” in the snow.

In the days after news broke regarding Young’s situation, he has received support from many members of the media. Ultimately, if he only sits out two games, it won’t be a crippling punishment.
Ohio State doesn’t need Young to blow out Rutgers, and they will have him back for Penn State and Michigan, plus presumably the Big Ten Championship Game.
The biggest casualty of Young’s suspension would be his outside shot at winning the Heisman Trophy, which has all but disappeared.
