Report: Notre Dame To Play Ohio State In Non-Conference Series Beginning In 2022

Two of college football's premier programs will be meeting on the field in the next decade.

Notre Dame announced Thursday morning that the Fighting Irish have scheduled a non-conference series with Ohio State. Notre Dame and the Buckeyes will play in 2022 and 2023.

Notre Dame and Ohio State last met in the Fiesta Bowl in January 2006, when a Troy Smith-led Buckeyes' squad defeated a Brady Quinn-quarterbacked Fighting Irish team, 34-20.

The two programs have been aiming at scheduling a set of games for a while. In early August, Ohio State athletic director Gene Smith, who played at Notre Dame, said he'd "love to" begin a series with his alma mater.

Ohio State currently has a series with Texas scheduled for 2022-23, too. The Buckeyes schedule those seasons will likely be quite loaded.
