J.T. Barrett was not drafted out of Ohio State in April. However, the New Orleans Saints saw enough in the quarterback to sign him to a three-year free agent deal.

New Orleans is obviously set at QB right now with Drew Brees, but the fact they are making a multi-year commitment to Barrett indicates they see some potential there.

Barrett is currently participating in rookie minicamp with the Saints. It sounds like he's left a good impression on his new head coach, Sean Payton.

Payton spoke about Barrett with reporters this afternoon.

"He has a leadership presence about him. He's a good athlete and he's played a lot of competitive football," Payton said. "He's handled this camp very well."

You can hear all of Payton's comments on Barrett below.

Barrett's maturity, experience and athleticism should all help him as he tries to make the Saints roster. He also was a winner in college, which NFL coaches love as a trait in their QBs.

What does this mean down the line? Who knows at this point, but its a good sign for the former Buckeye standout.
