The major news out of Columbus today is that Ohio State quarterback Tate Martell has put his name in the NCAA transfer portal. This doesn’t guarantee that Martell is gone, but it does indicate he is exploring his options in the wake of Justin Fields’ decision to transfer to OSU.
If Fields gets an NCAA waiver to be eligible immediately in 2019, he is all but guaranteed to be the starter. At that point, Martell might be better off transferring elsewhere.
In the shuffle of this juicy bit of news is a smaller tidbit that is pretty interesting in its own right. Tate Martell’s actual first name isn’t Tate.
It’s Tathan, according to the NCAA transfer portal. Tate is an abbreviation.
Tate Martell is now listed in the transfer portal.
In other news, his real name is Tathan. pic.twitter.com/wz9DGGad4g

Soooooo, not so much on the competition then. His talk sounded like he was confident he would win the job……and his real name is Tathan? https://t.co/z2D7QxeuIg

Whatever you call him, Tathan “Tate” Martell will be a highly-sought after commodity on the transfer market.
There are plenty of schools that should be interested in his services.
