Tom Crean Is Being Mentioned As A Candidate For The Ohio State Job

Tom Crean was nervous during his team's game against Michigan.

The former Indiana coach is being mentioned as a candidate for the Ohio State job.

Dick Vitale says Ohio State should forget about some of the big names being mentioned for the Buckeyes' men's basketball coach - Sean Miller, Shaka Smart, etc. aren't coming to Columbus.

The Buckeyes should go after a former Big 10 head coach, says the ESPN college basketball analyst.

Vitale wants Ohio State to bring former Indiana head coach Tom Crean to Columbus.

He made his plea on Twitter.

Crean, 51, has been mentioned by several people as a potential candidate for the Ohio State job.

CBS Sports mentioned him as someone the Buckeyes could go after, too:

Former Indiana coach Tom Crean. Knows the league inside and out, is a quality X's and O's coach, and would likely have interest. Crean, 51, has a 356-231 career record and reached the Final Four in 2003 with Marquette. He won the Big Ten regular-season title twice with Indiana. Don't write this potential off. Crean will eventually coach again, and likely at a quality school. If OSU went with Crean, they'd be picking a coach who knows the region well, but as you'll see, that's the case with most of the candidates.

Crean's a good coach. Good enough to satisfy Ohio State's fan base? Maybe not. But he could definitely succeed in Columbus.
