Urban Meyer Says Cardale Jones "Wasn't Necessarily Very Good At School"

Former Ohio State quarterback Cardale Jones is off to the NFL and will no longer have to focus on both his craft and his academics, which, according to Buckeyes head coach Urban Meyer, is a good thing. Meyer went on record with the Akron Beacon Journalthis past weekend and dropped a few interesting quotes about Jones as a prospect at the next level.

Meyer, who praised Jones' athleticism and knowledge of the game, told the Beacon Journal that whichever team drafts Jones is going to have to be patient and develop a trusting relationship with the young signal-caller. He also said that Jones "wasn't necessarily very good at school" and that being able to just focus on football will help him.

“A really good skill set, intellectual, very smart, wasn’t necessarily very good at school,” Meyer said. “I wonder if that kind of set him back a little bit. That’s one difference between pro and college — now he doesn’t have to worry about classes and going to school and all that stuff. He can focus completely on football.”

Meyer did admit that Jones came a long way in academics between 2012 and this past year.

It'll be interesting to see where Jones is taken in this year's draft. Meyer knows his players better than anyone, so he's likely spot-on when it comes to both praise and criticism.
