Urban Meyer's Biggest Priority When Hiring Assistant Coaches At Ohio State

Urban Meyer has to make a coaching hire or two (or more) every offseason.

Ohio State's head coach leads one of the top programs in the country and has become one of the best developers of future head coaches. So, his assistant coaching staff is consistently plucked by other programs.

Some of Meyer's former assistants include:

  • Houston head coach Tom Herman
  • Rutgers head coach Chris Ash
  • Texas head coach Charlie Strong
  • Mississippi State head coach Dan Mullen

What's the Buckeyes' three-time national champion head coach look for most when he's attempting to replace these assistant coaches?

According to 247Sports' recruiting analyst Bill Kurelic, Meyer's No. 1 priority is recruiting.

Meyer's process seems to be working just fine, as Ohio State has been one of the most-successful programs in the country on the field in recent seasons. The Buckeyes have been killing it on the recruiting trail, too.

Ohio State has the No. 1 recruiting class in the country for 2017 and had a top 10 class for 2016.
