No. 9 Michigan State just threw a major wrench into the College Football Playoff rankings and snapped No. 3 Ohio State's 22-game winning streak on a last-second field goal by kicker Michael Geiger.
Geiger connected on a 41-yard kick from the right has on the final play of the game.
This win for the Spartans, which came without starting QB Connor Cook, has huge implications. Defending champion Ohio State is all but eliminated from the CFP, while all Michigan State must do to clinch the Big Ten East is defeat Penn State at home next week.
If the Spartans do that, and go on to beat Iowa in the Big Ten Championship Game, they could earn a CFP berth. That seemed unthinkable after their loss to Nebraska.
