Mike Vrabel landed a head coaching gig.
Former Houston Texans defensive coordinator Mike Vrabel has been rising quickly through the coaching ranks. He retired as a player in 2010, after an impressive 14-year career.
Vrabel was drafted out of Ohio State in the third round with the 91st overall pick by the Pittsburgh Steelers. Vrabel played in Pittsburgh until 2000, when he signed with New England.
He then spent most of his career with the Patriots where he won three Super Bowls. Vrabel was a staple of the defenses that led New England to victory before Brady established his dominance.
After the 2008 season, Vrabel moved on to Kansas City. He was a Chief for the final two years of his career.
Since his NFL career ended, Vrabel has become one of the hottest coaches in the league. In 2014, he became the linebackers coach for the Houston Texans.
After three seasons in that capacity he moved up the ranks as the team’s defensive coordinator. He needed just one season to establish himself, and now has a head coaching gig.
According to a release from the Tennessee Titans, Vrabel is now the team’s head coach. He takes over for Mike Mularkey.

The Titans went 9-7 in 2017, and beat the Chiefs in the AFC Wild Card round before losing to the Patriots in the divisional round. A large part of the Titans future success revolves around quarterback Marcus Mariota, who struggled in 2017.
Vrabel beat out Rams offensive coordinator Matt LaFleur and Panthers defensive coordinator Steve Wilks for the job.
