5-Star QB Justin Fields Decommits From Penn State

Justin Fields, the No. 1-ranked dual-threat quarterback in the class of 2018, is back on the market after announcing his decommitment from Penn State moments ago.

Fields, once the centerpiece of what is an impressive class for the Nittany Lions, originally announced his commitment back on December 1, 2016. Seven months later, and he is backing off of that decision to reopen his recruitment. He made the announcement on Twitter tonight.

Fields, a five-star recruit who is ranked No. 6 overall nationally, is a Kennesaw, Georgia native, and could be staying closer to home. 247Sports' crystal ball had Penn State with 44-percent of the predictions, but Florida is close behind at 33-percent, and Florida State is at 11-percent. He also holds offers from Alabama, Auburn, Baylor, Georgia, LSU, Michigan State, Nebraska, Oregon, Tennessee, Texas, and numerous other top programs.

Last month, Fields revealed that Florida, LSU, Alabama, and Georgia are the SEC programs recruiting him hardest, in an interview with Rivals.

This past weekend, Fields took part in the Elite 11. He is automatically one of the most coveted players in the class, and things will heat up even further without the commitment to Penn State.
