Five-star Darnell Washington is starting to make some big moves with his recruitment. He recently took a few visits to some of the programs that are after him early.
Washington is the No. 24 overall recruit in the class of 2020. He has 33 reported offers, per 247Sports.
The site has the Las Vegas product as the No. 1 player in Nevada, and the top-ranked tight end in the class.
Darnell Washington went East for some recent visits to Penn State, Pitt, and West Virginia, and discussed them with 247.
“I made it out to Penn State, West Virginia and Pitt, and I really enjoyed those visits because it was great to get a new perspective on a few things,” Washington said. “I learned some new things, like I didn’t know Penn State threw the ball as much as they do. They use their tight ends and get them the ball, so that was good to see. West Virginia was also really good; I liked the strength and conditioning coach who taught us a lot in a short amount of time. At Pitt I liked the coaching staff and I felt like we connected.”
Things are very early in this recruitment, despite his five-star status.
Washington outlined some of the other programs he wants to check out, and seems pretty keen on a visit to Miami, calling it “tight end U.”
Oregon, UCLA, and USC are among the more local programs Washington has named as other options, though he doesn’t seem too close to naming a top schools list at this point.
At over 6-foot-7 and nearly 240 pounds, expect plenty of other top teams to get in on him.
