James Franklin has come under some heat for the sheer number of recruits he poached from Vanderbilt after leaving Nashville for the job opening at Penn State. Five former Vanderbilt commits are set to follow Franklin to Penn State, leaving the Commodore class thin. Vanderbilt, who had put together a top-20 class last season with Franklin, was on pace for a similar ranking this year, but is now all the way down at the No. 50 spot on Scout.com's team rankings.
This doesn't seem to bother Franklin, however, who responded to criticism of his tactics this afternoon:

While losing all of those recruits may be very frustrating for Vandy fans, ultimately players choose schools for different reasons, a major one being the head coach. It is hard to blame players for flipping their verbal commitment to play for the coach who they had made their original pledge to.
