Manny Bowen was kicked off the team.

Penn State will be without one of its starting linebackers when the Nittany Lions take on Washington in the Fiesta Bowl on Saturday.

Junior linebacker Manny Bowen was reportedly kicked off the team, along with wide receiver Irvin Charles.

According to the Daily Collegian, Bowen was kicked off the team for a violation of team rules. A Penn State spokesman released the following statement:

"We appreciate his contributions to the program and wish him success in the future."

Bowen provided depth at a very thin position for the Nittany Lions. The linebacker missed the final three games of the season amid off-field issues, so this move was expected.

Penn State addressed its need for outside linebacker with its 2018 recruiting class, landing three outside linebackers. The Nittany Lions also landed 5-star defensive end Michah Parsons, who they plan to play at linebacker.
