One of Penn State's 2018 commits has reached five-star status.
Recruiting rankings are an incredibly fluid thing. Prospects can move up or down lists every few months, depending on recent game tape, in-person evaluations, camp performances an other factors.
Of course, the highest honor a recruit can receive is being rated five-stars. Penn State already had one five-star commit in its well-regarded 2018 recruiting class; now, it has two.
The Nittany Lions didn't add another commitment; rather, quarterback Justin Fields added a fifth star. Previously a four-star prospect, Fields moved up 247Sports' Composite Rankings and as a result, is one of only 26 five-stars in the country.
Fields is also the No. 1 dual-threat quarterback in the 2018 cycle, and the third-ranked quarterback overall. Only Clemson commit Trevor Lawrence (No. 1 overall recruit) and USC-bound Matt Corral (No. 8) are rated higher. Both Lawrence and Corral are Pro-Style quarterbacks.
Penn State currently has the No. 2 2018 recruiting class in the country. Only Miami's is slotted higher.
Combine the recruiting success with last year's Rose Bowl bid and Big Ten title and the high hopes for the 2017 season, and there is a lot of excitement in Happy Valley right now.
