The New York Giants drafted Saquon Barkley No. 2 overall in April's NFL Draft with the idea that he'll have an immediate impact. He hasn't played a regular season game yet, but his first NFL touch was impactful.

Barkley took a handoff on the Giants' first play from scrimmage in tonight's preseason opener against the Cleveland Browns and after a couple of jukes, picked up 39 yards. It is far from a capacity crowd at MetLife Stadium tonight, but the fans in attendance sounded pleased.

You can catch the run below.

Now, it can't all be sunshine and rainbows for Barkley. His second carry went for -2 yards.

Still, it was encouraging to see him do what he did throughout his college career. We'll see if he can keep it going when the games count.

Throughout his NFL career, Barkley will likely be measured up against New York Jets quarterback Sam Darnold, who went with the next pick in the NFL Draft. Darnold will make his debut tomorrow night and might start from Day 1.

It will be fun to see their careers unfold in close proximity to each other.
