Midway High School running back William Nixon may hail from the state of Texas, but he has strong ties to Penn State. The 2020 running back is the son of a former PSU back, Jeff Nixon, and the Nittany Lions want to bring the legacy player to Happy Valley.
Nixon recently visited Penn State and spoke glowingly about the program and head coach James Franklin in an interview with Lions247. He revealed that as a child he was a Penn State fan. Both his father and mother were PSU alumni.
“As a kid, Penn State was my favorite college team," Nixon, a receiver recruit, told Lions247. "Throughout my childhood, I watched players play in the Penn State uniform, and (earlier this week) I got the chance to wear the Penn State uniform during my visit."
“What really stands out about Penn State for me is the passion of the fan base and what football means to the State College community," he said. "And the job that Coach (James) Franklin and his staff have done the last three years to finish in the top 15 and compete for championships.”
Penn State do face some stiff opposition for Nixon's services though. The Waco, Texas native is already being recruited by schools across the country, including Notre Dame.
Additionally, his father Jeff currently serves as the co-offensive coordinator at Baylor, which could give William even more incentive to stay close to home.
247Sports' Crystal Ball Predictions has Baylor and Notre Dame both with 50-percent of the predictions for Nixon as of today.
Following in his father's footsteps could potentially open NFL doors to William as well.
His father spent ten years as an NFL assistant prior to his hiring by the Baylor Bears in 2017.
