As if suffering a loss to arch-rival Michigan last week wasn't bad enough, Michigan State (4-3) may now be short-handed for their game against a Purdue (4-3) team.

Per a report on the radio show Couch and The Rube, Spartans QB Brian Lewerke will not start on Saturday and may not even play at all in the game.

Lewerke suffered a shoulder injury several weeks ago against Penn State - an injury which apparently did not fully heal in time for his start against Michigan.

The Spartans starting QB completed just five of 25 passes for 66 yards in a 21-7 loss.

The junior Lewerke is in his second year as starter for the Spartans.

If Lewerke is not ready to play on Saturday, the duties will likely fall to Rocky Lombardi.

Purdue, meanwhile, have been stunning opponents left and right since starting the season 0-3. Last week they blew out No. 2 Ohio State in a 49-20 rout. They have scored 30 or more points in each of their last five games.
