The Iowa Hawkeyes football team ended the 2018 season on a high note, upsetting No. 18 Mississippi State to finish in the top 25. But they're going to be in a dog-race to secure a spot in the Big Ten Championship Game next season.
Iowa will start the 2019 season at home for back-to-back games against Miami (OH) and Big Ten foe Rutgers. They'll play their in-state rivalry game with Iowa State on the road and finish the month of September at home against Middle Tennessee.
Last year Iowa started the season 6-1 and looked like a contender for the Big Ten West Division title. But three straight losses tanked their Big Ten title dreams.
The game times and channels for Iowa's first three games have now been revealed, as has their season finale against division rival Nebraska.
- Iowa vs. Miami (OH) - August 31, 7:30 p.m. EST on FS1
- Iowa vs. Rutgers - September 7, 12:00 p.m. EST on FS1
- Iowa @ Iowa State - September 14, 4:00 p.m. EST on FS1
- Iowa at Nebraska - November 29, 2:30 p.m. EST on BTN
Iowa will almost certainly be favored in their first three games, while the fight for the Heroes Trophy against Nebraska could be a toss-up.
Since the Big Ten Conference was divided into East and West divisions in 2014, only Iowa, Northwestern, and Wisconsin have represented the conference in the Big Ten Championship Game.
If Iowa plans on getting back, winning the easier games on their schedule is an absolute must.
