Penn State vs. Rutgers – Game Time, TV Schedule, Line, Preview, Predictions

This has been a big week for Penn State fans. Not only is the team coming off of a 21-3 win over Akron, but the NCAA took away the bowl ban and scholarship restrictions against Nittany Lions, and for the first time since 2011, Penn State has aspirations of making it to a bowl game. Could Penn State win the Big Ten? It's a longshot, but that doesn't matter, because the door is now open.

This has also been a big week for Rutgers fans. The team is 2-0 after beating Howard on Saturday, and now the Scarlet Knights face the Nittany Lions for the first time since 1995 in the first Big Ten game in school history. It'll be a big week for Rutgers football, and the team will definitely want to improve on its 2-22 record all-time against Penn State.

Prediction: This has the potential to be one of the most hotly contested games of the week. Rutgers and its fans believe this is one of the biggest games in recent memory. Penn State just earned new life, and suddenly has aspirations of possibly winning the Big Ten and going to a bowl game. It goes without saying, but this will be an emotional game.

We expect both teams to come out on fire, and for it to be hotly contested all game. What this may ultimately come down to is which quarterback -- Christian Hackenberg for Penn State and Gary Nova for Rutgers -- will do a better job protecting the football and avoiding turnovers.

While Rutgers has better depth, Penn State is the more talented team. Penn State also has the better defense, and even though this game is in New Jersey, many Nittany Lion fans are expected to attend the game. For those reasons, we're going to go with Penn State to win and narrowly cover.
