Update 2: ESPN is reporting that Pernetti has resigned - it looks like he came around.
Update: Steve Politi of The Star-Ledger is reporting that Pernetti won't resign. In a nutshell, that means they'll have to fire him.
Earlier: According to Tara Sullivan of The Record, Rutgers AD Tim Pernetti will either resign or be terminated in the wake of the Mike Rice practice video controversy.
Earlier this week, ESPN's Outside the Lines obtained and posted video of former (he's since been fired) Rutgers basketball coach Mike Rice throwing basketballs at players, cursing at them and calling them gay slurs. Pernetti had seen the video in December and suspended Rice for three games and levied a $50,000 fine against him.
But when the video was released by ESPN this week, the public was outraged. The media immediately began calling for Rice's job. Rice was fired within 24 hours of the video's release, and one of his assistants, Jimmy Martelli, also left the program in response. Since, Athletic Director Tim Pernetti has been the one taking the heat, with everyone questioning how Rice could have kept his job after the AD saw the tape.
More as we learn it.
