Wisconsin AD Barry Alvarez may make his return to the sidelines. Gary Andersen surprisingly left the Badgers to take Oregon State’s head coaching vacancy today, and the squad needs a new coach in the interim. Alvarez told reporters that some players have asked him if he will coach the squad in the Outback Bowl, and that he will consider doing it.
Barry: “Seniors came back and visited with me, asked me if I would coach the game, I told them I would consider it. That’s where we are.”

This wouldn’t be the first time that Alvarez did something like this. He coached the squad in the 2013 Rose Bowl after Bret Bielema left the school to take the head coaching job at Arkansas. The Badgers lost to Stanford, 20-14.
Alvarez was the Badgers’ head coach from 1990-2005, and compiled a 118-74-4 record. He led the school to three Big Ten championships. Ever since 2004, he has acted as Wisconsin’s athletic director.
We’ll see if Alvarez is on the sidelines when Wisconsin takes on Auburn in the Outback Bowl on Jan. 1, 2015. The game will kick off at 12:00 P.M. EST on ESPN2.
