Kirk Herbstreit has become one of college football's iconic voices. He's also a popular social media must-follow. Herbstreit's weekly top five team performances have become a tradition.
With Week 4 in the books, Herbstreit has unveiled the five teams he was most impressed by. There were certainly some big-time performances from the teams included.
Here's his top five team performances in Week 4:
- Wisconsin
- Pitt
- Auburn
- SMU
- UCLA
- San Jose State
The eighth-ranked Badgers emerged as a true College Football Playoff contender this past weekend. Wisconsin beat Michigan 35-14 — though the score doesn't truly indicate how dominant the Badgers were. They're certainly on top of the Big Ten right alongside Ohio State.
Pitt pulled off a shocking 35-34 upset of UCF on Saturday. The Panthers drew up an incredible trick-play which resulted in a touchdown with less than a minute left. The Knights hadn't lost a regular-season game since November of 2016.
Auburn continues to look the part. The Tigers didn't have much trouble with Texas A&M, beating the Aggies 28-20.
The rest of Herbstreit's list includes: SMU, UCLA and San Jose State. All three pulled off unexpected victories.
Most notably, the Bruins beat Washington State in miraculous fashion. Chip Kelly's squad went down 49-17 in the third quarter. But the Bruins came all the way back, scoring 50 points in the second half en route to a 67-63 win. It's already considered one of the craziest games in college football history.
Did Herbstreit leave off teams who were more deserving? Or is the list exactly how it should be?
