When Was The Last Time Wisconsin Won The NCAA Tournament?

This year is Bo Ryan's first trip to the Final Four, and Wisconsin's first Final Four since 2000, when coach Dick Bennett led the eighth seeded Badgers to Indianapolis. Those Badgers fell to eventual national champions Michigan State in the semifinal, 53-41.

What many don't know, however, is that Wisconsin does have a basketball National Championship to its name. The 1941 Wisconsin Badgers defeated Washington State 39-34 in Kansas City's Municipal Auditorium for the Championship.

The 1941 NCAA Tournament featured only eight teams, compared to the current field of 68. The Badgers defeated Dartmouth 51-50 in the first round and Pittsburgh 36-30 in the semifinal before advancing to defeat Washington State.

Wisconsin was coached by Bud Foster (not the Virginia Tech defensive coordinator, as far as we know), who spent 24 years in Madison. 6-foot-3 forward John Kotz, a two time All-American, was named the tournament's Most Outstanding Player, scoring 12 points in the championship game.
