When the Wisconsin football team hosts Northwestern on September 28, it’ll be sporting a very different look.
On Tuesday, the Badgers unveiled an incredible throwback uniform that they’ll be wearing for the game. In a slight departure from their typical uniform, the Badgers will be wearing brown pants and a red jersey that’s a slightly different shade from normal.
But perhaps the most unique change is the logo. Rather than the typical “W” that has become an iconic logo, Wisconsin will be sporting a more classical “W” in the middle of a circle on the gloves. On the helmet and front of the jersey, the letters “UW” will be featured in red font.
It also features a patch with the number “150,” in celebration of 150 years of college football.

The immediate reaction to the throwback jersey release was largely positive. Several fans on Twitter expressed their fondness for the new design:

Absolutely LOVE it! Nailed it. Much needed. Way overdue for a change up. Still wanna see triple red look. 🔴🔴🔴some day

Like just about all throwback uniforms though, it does have its critics:
Eh…while I appreciate the attempt, these throwback inspired uniforms miss the mark. The uniforms from 2012 vs Nebraska were better. The late 1950s-early 60s throwback uniforms worn against Bowling Green in 2005 remain the gold standard for throwbacks.

You might as well write Badgers in comic sans

But we’ll have to just agree to disagree, because we love this new uniform.
Last year Wisconsin lost on the road to Northwestern. If the Badgers can avenge that crucial loss while wearing this jersey, the critics may change their tune.
