Ole Miss head coach Lane Kiffin has had his younger brother, co-defensive coordinator Chris Kiffin, on staff during several of his college football jobs. But the two appear to be parting ways this coming year.
According to ESPN's Chris Low, Chris Kiffin is leaving Ole Miss and joining the Cleveland Browns. Kiffin previously worked for the Browns as defensive line coach over the last two years and only joined the Rebels last month.
Low attributed Kiffin's return to the Browns to "a change of heart." Kiffin has spent the last four years working in the NFL, first as the pass rush specialist coach on the 49ers from 2018 to 2019 before joining the Browns in 2020.
Lane and Chris Kiffin last worked together during Lane's stint at FAU. Chris worked as the defensive coordinator & linebackers coach under his brother.
Chris Kiffin attended college at Colorado State and got his coaching start as an assistant at Idaho. His coaching journey took him to Ole Miss and Nebraska before his first job with Lane at USC in 2010.
Chris worked as a defensive administrative assistant under his brother for one year before moving to Arkansas State in 2011. In 2012, he was hired as defensive line coach & defensive recruiting coordinator at Ole Miss under Hugh Freeze.
This would have been Chris Kiffin's third stint at Ole Miss and third job working under Lane.
Maybe the Kiffin brothers will work together again down the road. But not in 2022.
