There has been a growing trend in recent years of players skipping bowl games in order to avoid injuries before entering the NFL.
And with less than a week before the start of bowl season, there are already a dozen players who are planning to skip.
247Sports has kept an updated list of players skipping bowl games, and there are a few notable names throughout the Power Five and AAC that won’t be playing this month.
Among them is FSU running back Cam Akers, who had 1,144 yards and 14 touchdowns for the Noles this year. But there are many others planning to follow in his footsteps.
Here is the list, via 247Sports:
- LB Kamal Martin, Minnesota
- WR Brandon Aiyuk, Arizona State
- RB Cam Akers, Florida State
- DL Justin Madubuike, Texas A&M
- QB Brandon Wimbush, UCF
- RB AJ Dillon, Boston College
- OL Trey Adams, Washington
- TE Hunter Bryant, Washington
- DE Trevon Hill, Miami
- DL Jonathan Garvin, Miami
- CB Cameron Dantzler, Mississippi State
- CB CJ Henderson, Florida
That’s a pretty substantial list. And it may only get bigger in the days to come. However, we’ve already had standouts like Alabama WR Jerry Jeudy and Michigan QB Shea Patterson announce they’ll be playing in their respective games.
I’m playing in the bowl game. There’s no reason to not play!!!!

Last year we saw such highly-touted prospects as Ed Oliver, Will Grier, and Deebo Samuel skip their teams’ bowl games.
Other superstars such as Christian McCaffrey and Leonard Fournette have similarly skipped the games.
It doesn’t look like the trend will be ending anytime soon.
