Two college football players have reportedly been “seriously injured” in a shooting in the early hours of Saturday morning in downtown Spokane, but are expected to make a full recovery.
Dehonta Hayes and Keith Moore, players at Eastern Washington, have reportedly been hospitalized with injuries following the shooting.
Spokesman.com reports that a spokesman for the school says the two players are expected to make a full recovery.
Details on the shooting are sparse, per Spokesman.com:
The shooting happened at about 1:22 a.m. Police did not release the circumstances around the shooting.
Nearby officers, who were stationed near the downtown bars where the shooting occurred, immediately rendered aid to the two adult male victims before paramedics arrived, according to the news release.
Two cars were also hit with bullets, Van Tassel said.
Hayes is a redshirt senior defensive back who was third on the team in tackles last season and was expected to start this upcoming year. Moore is a redshirt junior defensive lineman who played in 10 games last year.
An Eastern Washington spokesman released the following statement:
“Our first priority is to provide support and comfort to the students, their families, and their friends,” he said. “Our thoughts are with them during this difficult time.”
