Don't count out the Buckeyes just yet.
With there being an abundance of undefeated and one-loss teams in college football this year, it seems pretty unlikely that a two-loss team could squeak its way into the playoff.
It's possible, though.
According to ESPN's FiveThirtyEight, there are currently three two-loss teams with a better than 5 percent chance of reaching it.
Those three teams:
- Ohio State - 12 percent
- Auburn - 9 percent
- USC - 7 percent
Only one of those teams seems to control its own destiny.
ESPN's FiveThirtyEight gives Auburn a 95 percent chance to reach the playoff if the Tigers win out (9 percent chance to win out). Winning out would mean Auburn would have a win over Alabama and an SEC championship. It's tough to see the Tigers missing the playoff if that happens.
Ohio State and USC's chances of making the playoff after winning out are listed at 37 and 30 percent, respectively.
