The 2021 NFL Draft officially kicks off in just over 24 hours, but one team is reportedly still undecided with who they will pick.
Earlier this offseason, the San Francisco 49ers made a bold trade up from No. 12 to No. 3, sending the No. 12 pick and two future first-round picks to the Miami Dolphins. Not long after the trade, the 49ers started being linked to Alabama quarterback Mac Jones.
Head coach Kyle Shanahan reportedly wants to draft Jones, but there are others in the building who want a different quarterback. On Wednesday, ESPN's Adam Schefter said North Dakota State quarterback Trey Lance has "narrowed" the gap.
"As much as the 49ers love Mac Jones, and they do, I believe that the gap between Mac Jones and the other QBs like Trey Lance has been narrowed considerably," Schefter said. "I can tell you over the weekend they did not know who they were going to take."
With the draft drawing near, it's concerning that the 49ers don't know who they want to pick just yet. Of course, this could all be a smokescreen and San Francisco could have known who it was taking for weeks at this point.
We'll never really know. However, we will know who the 49ers will take with the No. 3 pick soon after the 2021 draft officially kicks off on Thursday night.
Who will it be?
