Fitzpatrick didn't shy away from why Alabama made the CFP.

It has been widely recognized that Ohio State's blowout loss to Iowa was the reason Alabama made the College Football Playoff over the Buckeyes, despite the fact that OSU won the Big Ten. Even the chairman of the selection committee, Kirby Hocutt, admitted as much.

Alabama defensive back Minkah Fitzpatrick knows he and his teammates owe the Hawkeyes one. That's why the junior star says he thanked Iowa's top player this week.

Speaking with reporters on Wednesday at the College Football Hall of Fame, Fitzpatrick admitted he thanked Iowa's Josey Jewell in person.

Via SEC Country's Marq Burnett:

“I thanked Josey Jewell this Monday when we were in Charlotte,” Fitzpatrick said, smiling. “I just said thank you for beating up on Ohio State.”

Jewell’s response?

“He said he was just doing his job,” Fitzpatrick said.

Iowa did its job, not it is up to Alabama to prove they belong.

The Tide will face Clemson on Jan. 1 in the Sugar Bowl. Somehow we feel Nick Saban will have his guys ready for that one.
