Analyst Calls Big 10 Country's Most "Overrated" Conference

The Big Ten dominated the top of the Coaches' Poll today.

The Big Ten is featured quite a bit at the top of the preseason Coaches' Poll, which came out today.

Ohio State comes in at No. 2, Penn State is No. 6, Michigan is No. 9 and Wisconsin is No. 10.

The Big Ten is the only conference with four teams in the top 10. No other conference has more than two (ACC with Clemson, FSU; Pac-12 with USC, Washington). The SEC has just one (Alabama at No. 1) but five in the top 16.

This has prompted USA TODAY's Dan Wolken to call the Big Ten the country's most "overrated" conference.

While the SEC boasts the nation’s No. 1 team in Alabama, the coaches have put four Big Ten teams in the top 10 to start the season.

Four teams from the conference that hasn’t scored a single point in two consecutive appearances in the College Football Playoffs.

Four teams from the conference that face-planted during the most recent bowl season, going 3-7.

Four teams from the conference that, in the last two seasons, has a 20-24 record against the other Power Five leagues.

What in the name of Jim Delany is going on here?

Ohio State and Penn State are very much deserving of spots inside the top 10. Michigan and Wisconsin are debatable, but both squads should be, at the worst, top 15 teams this fall.
