Here are some major college football coaches at risk of being fired in 2018.

The 2017 coaching carousel was maybe college football's craziest one yet. We saw a ton of high-caliber programs part ways with their head coaches. A couple of others left elite jobs for new ones.

What will the 2018 season have in store? More craziness?

USA TODAY college football analyst Dan Wolken has named some coaches at-risk of being fired in 2018. They likely need successful seasons to avoid being on the hot seat.

The Power 5 coach most at-risk of being fired is probably David Beaty. Some thought Kansas' head coach would be fired last season.

Beaty, 47, has been Kansas' head coach for three seasons. He's won just three games.

Without some real improvement in 2018, Beaty will probably be out. Who else could be out?

Wolken has named seven Power 5 coaches that could be on the hot seat. They are, in order:

  • Kansas' David Beaty
  • Vanderbilt's Derek Mason
  • Texas Tech's Kliff Kingsbury
  • Illinois' Lovie Smith
  • North Carolina's Larry Fedora
  • LSU's Ed Orgeron
  • USC's Clay Helton

Beaty, Mason and Kingsbury will all probably be out in 2018 without big seasons. Smith has a huge buyout, so it would probably take a horrendous season for him to be done. It's tough to imagine Fedora, Oregon and Helton losing their jobs, but you never know.
