The third week of the 2019 college football season isn’t bringing a bunch of highly-anticipated matchups. In fact, there are no games between top 25 teams. It’s the first time since the fall of 2017 that one full college football weekend didn’t include any ranked vs. ranked contests.
Often, though, the college football weekends you look forward to the least end up being the most exciting.
That could certainly be the case this weekend.
Ralph Russo, the Associated Press’ national college football writer, is predicting some chaos. He’s released his full picks for Week 3 and has three top 25 teams going down.
One of those upsets is No. 9 Florida at Kentucky.
No. 9 Florida (minus 7) at Kentucky
Wildcats snapped a three-decade losing streak to the Gators last year, and try to make it two straight, but without QB Terry Wilson (knee) … KENTUCKY 24-21.
Russo also has:
- No. 19 Iowa losing at Iowa State
- No. 21 Maryland losing at Temple
Weekends like this have brought major upsets in the past, as noted by ESPN’s Chris Fallica.
Each of the last 5 times there was a weekend without a ranked matchup, at least 2 ranked teams lost to NR teams. 9/25/04 was last weekend without a ranked matchup that every ranked team won. That weekend #1 USC needed a 4th qtr TD to beat Stanford 31-28 as a 22.5 pt favorite.

What upsets will you be picking in Week 3? If history is telling us anything, you can bet on at least one or two happening.
