You don't see this happening in college sports very often.

ESPN NFL analyst/former NFL head coach Herm Edwards will, pending approval, be the next head coach at Arizona State.

It's a fairly stunning hire that comes days after Todd Graham was somewhat surprisingly fired.

According to reports, this deal has "been done for days."

And it's kind of easy to see why that's the case.

Arizona State's athletic director, Ray Anderson, is a former NFL agent. One of his clients was Herm Edwards.

Edwards is reportedly expected to keep most of the current staff.

Edwards, 63, was an NFL head coach from 2001-08.
