As usual, the 2019 college football season will be loaded with individual talent. There are plenty of stars that will shine on a weekly basis.

The battle for the top player in the country will certainly include Alabama's Tua Tagovailoa and Clemson's Trevor Lawrence. They will be Heisman candidates, and could be the No. 1 overall pick in the 2020 and 2021 NFL Drafts respectively.

Athlon Sports put together its list of the top 50 players in college football. They have Tagovailoa and Lawrence at 1-2 in the rankings.

Tua gets the slight nod over Lawrence for the top spot:

As mentioned previously, Clemson’s Trevor Lawrence and Tagovailoa are really 1A and 1B on this list. After guiding Alabama to a comeback victory in the national championship against Georgia two seasons ago, Tagovailoa earned the starting job for the 2018 campaign and posted 3,966 yards and 43 passing touchdowns (both single-season records for Alabama) to just six picks. Tagovailoa finished second in the Heisman Trophy voting to Kyler Murray.

Lawrence got the better of Tua in this year's national championship game. He also appears to be the better pro prospect of the two, although like we said, Tagovailoa has a good chance of being the No. 1 overall pick in 2020.

It would be great for college football to see these two play each other again next year.
