Baker Mayfield Carried His 'Pretenders' Sign Into The Rose Bowl

Oklahoma's star quarterback has brought his sign with him.

Back in August, ESPN college football analyst Lee Corso called Oklahoma "pretenders" in a season preview show.

Baker Mayfield hasn't forgotten about it.

The Sooners' star quarterback has referenced Corso's jab throughout the season and he's made it especially clear that he remembers what was said at the Rose Bowl this week.

Mayfield has been carrying around a big "pretenders" sign all week.

Oklahoma has arrived at the Rose Bowl this afternoon for its College Football Playoff contest against Georgia and, yep, Mayfield has the sign with him.

You have to love it. Here's video of Corso's original "pretenders" comment.

Kirk Herbstreit recently told reporters he couldn't believe that Corso said it.

“My facial expression was, ‘Oh my God, I can’t believe he just said pretenders,’ ” Herbstreit said, per The Oklahoman. “This was in August. And sure enough, they have a sign at practice that says ‘Pretenders’ and they were carrying it around.”

Oklahoma, clearly, proved that Corso was wrong.

The Sooners will have a chance to make the national title game later today when they take on the Bulldogs. OU and UGA are set to kick off at 5 p.m. E.T. on ESPN.
