The Buccaneers have signed Blake Sims to their practice squad.
Former Alabama quarterback Blake Sims was signed to Tampa Bay's practice squad. Nothing seems out of the ordinary in that sentence, right? Well, let's add this; Sims was signed as the practice team's running back.
That's right, Blake Sims, former quarterback, is now a running back in the NFL.
Sims quarterbacked the 2014 Alabama Crimson Tide to an SEC title and a spot in the College Football Playoff. Unfortunately for the Tide, Ohio State came to play and defeated Alabama by a score of 42-35 en route to a national title.
Sims went undrafted in the 2015 NFL Draft, but had the chance to try out with both the Green Bay Packers and Washington Redskins. He tried out as a running back for both clubs, but was not retained by either one.
It's been a tough ride for Sims, who had a stint in the Canadian Football League as well as the National Gridiron League in Australia, before finally being signed to the Buccaneers practice squad.
