Bob Stoops has been out of college football for a couple of years now, but the former Oklahoma head coach continues to be mentioned for big-time jobs that open up.
The national title-winning head coach has been rumored to be a candidate for the Florida State job. He’s also been mentioned for the potential USC job.
Stoops, who’s set to coach in the XFL, addressed his potential return to college football today.
“Well you never know what the Lord is going to bring ya,” Stoops said on ESPN Central Texas. “Everybody wants you to define your life at every age. At 50, they wanted me to know what I was going to do the rest of my life. And at 55, and now at 59, everyone thinks you gotta…ya know, who knows what I’ll be doing next year or the year after. You don’t know what you’re going to be doing next year. And the good Lord is the only one who knows.
“We’ll see where things end up for me.”
Stoops appears to be committed to the XFL.
“I’m excited about this adventure here with the Dallas Renegades and looking forward to some good, exciting football with them,” Stoops added.
Stoops is only 59 years old, so he’s got plenty of time left to make a return to the college football sideline. For now, though, he appears to be committed to his XFL gig.
