The AP will release its annual preseason poll on Monday, but longtime voter and college football writer Brett McMurphy revealed his personal ballot today.
It is no surprise that McMurphy has Clemson at No. 1, but it is noteworthy that he placed Georgia, not Alabama at No. 2. The Crimson Tide are in the third spot on his list.
Oklahoma and Michigan round out of the top five. McMurphy’s top 10 is as follows:
- Ohio State
- Notre Dame
You can view his full top 25 below.
Here’s my AP preseason ballot: Nos. 1-3 Clemson, Georgia, Alabama; Nos. 23-25 Northwestern, Memphis, Army. AP poll released Monday https://t.co/Wxl1i1VqZK

McMurphy is clearly a pretty big believer in Utah, as he puts the Utes before any other Pac-12 team on his ballot. Kyle Whittingham’s team boasts a strong cast of returnees and might have the best defensive line in the country.
The first Coaches Poll preseason top 25 was released on August 1, with Clemson and Alabama occupying the top two spots. You can view that poll here.
As for The Spun’s preseason top 25, we unveiled that earlier this summer, and you can scroll through our rankings here.
Look out for the AP poll come Monday as well.
