The Mississippi State head coach has been mentioned for the opening.

It's early on in the Tennessee head coaching search - the Volunteers fired Butch Jones yesterday, after all - so it's unclear which potential candidates are legitimate and which are not.

One SEC head coach continues to be named as a contender, though - Dan Mullen.

The Mississippi State head coach has been mentioned by several people and earlier this afternoon, insider Bruce Feldman says it's "genuine."

A big bump in pay might be necessary if you want to pluck him from Starkville. Mullen makes pretty good money at Mississippi State, but not $6.5 million.

The offensive-minded head coach has also been linked to the Florida job.
