CBS Names The 5 Most-Hyped Teams This Offseason

You'll be hearing a lot about these teams.

The college football offseason is rolling along. National Signing Day is Wednesday and spring practices will be starting soon nationwide.

We're still seven months away from opening weekend, but that doesn't mean we aren't looking ahead. Way-too-early top 25 rankings have already been released and fans are already busy forecasting how their teams will be in the fall.

With that in mind CBS produced a list of the five most-hyped teams this offseason. They expect all of them to receive a lot of attention.

The No. 1 most-hyped team might be a surprise: Lane Kiffin's FAU Owls.

Here's why:

That's right, I have a Conference USA team at No. 1, but it's not just any Conference USA team. It's the one that is coached by Lane Kiffin, so you know it's going to receive plenty of attention. Hell, the Owls already had plenty of eyes on them last season because Kiffin made sure to keep their attention, and that's not going to change this offseason, but there's reason to believe the spotlight will get bigger.

With UCF going 13-0 and beating Auburn in the Peach Bowl, people are already on the lookout for the next Group of Five team to try and turn the established order on its head. That team would still be UCF had Scott Frost not left for Nebraska, but since he has, Florida Atlantic becomes the next target. It was the best team in C-USA last year, and it likely will be this season too. The Owls open on the road at Oklahoma before facing Air Force and UCF. So before the 2018 season begins, there will be plenty of talk about whether Lane Kiffin's team can somehow knock off the Sooners or go 12-1 and get in the New Year's Six.

The other four teams on the list are:

  • Miami (Fla.)
  • Texas
  • Washington
  • Auburn
