Stanford will be without its best player in its bowl game against North Carolina.
Christian McCaffrey announced on Twitter this morning that he will be sitting out of Stanford's bowl game, a Sun Bowl bout against North Carolina.
The 20-year-old running back says it was a "very tough decision" but he's skipping the game so he can "begin my draft prep immediately."
Here's his full statement.
It seems like a trend might be developing here.
LSU star running back Leonard Fournette had already said that he'll be skipping the Tigers' Citrus Bowl game against Louisville.
It's tough to argue against the idea, too - just look at what happened with former Notre Dame star linebacker Jaylon Smith. He suffered a severe knee injury against Ohio State in the Fiesta Bowl and dropped to the second round of the NFL Draft after being seen by many as a top 10 lock.
McCaffrey, who totaled 1,603 rushing yards this season, is a potential first-round pick.
